When I was 13 I received a gift that would ultimately change the way I would look at and explore the world. It didn't seem like momentous occasion at the time. It came in the form of an Olympus Om-1 from my parents, a small light weight camera and a 50mm lense.

Growing up outside of Chicago in the middle of the country was a great jumping off point for exploring Chicago and crisscrossing this country more times than I can remember. I think by the time I was in my mid 30's  I had traveled on most freeways, highways and country roads in North America. My camera, never far from me, was always loaded with film and I had thrown out my lense cap so I would not not miss a moment that would become the images of my story.

Over the years I have been on assignments with People Magazine and Men’s Journal and have photographed diverse subjects as sherpas in the Himalayas, folk artists and eccentrics in the Deep South, and various documentary projects including a series on The California School for the Blind.

I am drawn to people. My approach is really simple. I want to capture a moment in time that celebrates the true self. Although I enjoy many different types of photography, my passion for portrait work is what I love the best.  My style aims to capture subjects in their natural state, making you feel comfortable in front of the camera so I can focus on getting the right shots, creating unique and striking images captured using simple parameters:  with one light or natural light.

I have lived in Marin County for almost two decades with my wife, dog, and daughter. (The dog came first.) I have been a Bay Area resident for almost three decades since migrating from Chicago. Enjoying the outdoor experiences that Marin County offers while living in a culturally rich area is the perfect balance. Taking “nature walks” is one of my favorite family activities. I am passionate about photography, movies, wildlife spotting and I have a remarkable visual memory.
